This is a great result for the Team Bahrain Victorious rider, who finished in fifth place in the overall standings with a gap of 12:49” from pink jersey Tadej Pogacar.
The Giro d'Italia 2024 concluded with the traditional procession through the streets of the Italian capital that ended in a bunch sprint, won by Tim Merlier (Soudal Quick-Step).
The finish line was set on the Via dei Fori Imperiali, where Roman monuments celebrating the glories of Ancient Rome's emperors are located, and two new rulers were crowned on Sunday. The names of Caesar, Augustus, Nerva and Trajan were joined by Tadej Pogačar (United Arab Emirates) and Antonio Tiberi of Team Bahrain Victorious. Pogačar won the overall title by a margin of 9'56”, the widest margin since Vittorio Adorni in 1965. Tiberi became the first Italian to win “Best Young Rider” in nearly a decade, and only the third to do so this century.
“It's impossible to describe this feeling,” Antonio said. “It's like a dream; to be here in my region, with the white Giro jersey and 5th place overall is just fantastic. My family and the fans are all here, and I feel like I am just starting to understand what I have achieved and what it means. It's a super exciting moment for me, a super special moment.”
