SAVE AMAZONIA

“Save Amazonia”: this is the powerful, direct and extremely embraceable message that the athletes of the DMT Racing Team will be wearing on their Alé jerseys during the next Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin.

That's right. At the start of this prestigious Spanish stage race (six stages for a total of 358 kilometres and 11,156 metres of elevation gain, scheduled from Monday, 21st February to Saturday, 26th February), the four competing athletes of Andrea Marconi’s team – that is, Tiago Ferreira, Filipe Francisco, Miguel Munoz and Andreas Miltiadis – will be wearing a new uniform, wanted and made specifically for this event by Alé. It’s a special jersey to raise awareness on an environmental issue that can no longer be put off: the relentless deforestation of the Amazon, “our” largest lung, which is unfortunately being increasingly devastated, stripped of its resources and of its delicate ecosystem.

From a purely technical point of view, this exclusive Alé jersey worn by the four riders of the DMT Racing Team is part of the PR-S collection, which Alé reserves for riders who pursue maximum performance on their bikes. But the graphics of the jersey created for this event are what is most striking and thought-provoking. The visible slogan – almost a furious cry –calls for greater respect and above all for the protection of the Amazon rainforests. The front and back of the jersey showcase sentences in English that remind us that environmental exploitation is pushing us towards the brink of disaster. They remind us of the number of animal, insect and plant species that are lost every day because of deforestation, for example, or that 2021 marked an all-time high in terms of forest destruction. They also remind us that the planet needs the Amazon as a key source of oxygen.

“Our contribution – added Alessia Piccolo, CEO of APG S.r.l.aims at creating the conditions to leave a great mark. It’s a simple initiative, but it aims to raise awareness on a global issue that concerns us all and that can no longer be put off. MTB is a discipline that has a close relationship with nature. Riders ride on dirt roads, in the woods, in the mountains. Our commitment to this movement will continue to grow, and we believe that choosing to participate in this prestigious event in Spain, the Andalucía Bike Race by Garmin, and highlighting such an important and profound theme with our special jerseys, was the right thing to do. Or rather, it was our duty”.
